Ono will be having our final concert on Sunday, May 8th at 4:30 in Memorial Chapel. We'll be having an "upbeat concert" which never happens so really you should be super excited! There will be old songs, new songs, and lots of beautiful soloists. If you can't make this concert, be on the lookout for a mini-concert during Reunion and Commencement weekend!
********* Ono has so much news! We are excited to welcome our new members, Talia Goldberg and Julia DeVarti! We also had a great concert in Cambridge with the Harvard Glee Club Lite on Sunday, Feb. 21st. We even had some alumna join us for our final song: Joey and Snells! We will also be having a joint concert with the Wesleyan Spirits and New Group in the Olin lobby Saturday Feb. 27th at 5:30.
Though Lisa, Sara, and Ella are all off campus this semester, we hope their having fun adventuring outside of CT and can't wait to see them next year!
Fall 2015
Ono had their final winter concert on December 13th in Community Engagement House (comho?) There were some oldies and some newbies and fun to be had by all. Be on the lookout for audition times at the beginning of the Spring semester!
Ono had an awesome Homecoming/Family weekend, with two great performances! On Friday, November 6th, we hosted the Williams Octet for a joint concert. On Sunday, we sang along with 9 other Wes a cappella groups as part of the annual Homecoming a cappella concert. Keep an eye out for new videos on our Youtube channel!!
WELCOME NEW BABIES! Ono welcomed four new members into our group this fall. They are: Sara Dean ('17), Kati Young ('19), Melanie Nelson ('19), and Marni Loffman ('19). Alumni, go ahead and Facebook stalk them :)
Ono is very excited to be performing at the Orientation Concert Sunday, September 6th from 6-8! We're even welcoming back some lovely alumni members to sing with us before we recruit some new babies. We're also all wishing Savannah Clark '17 a wonderful semester abroad in Copenhagen!
If you're interested in auditioning for Ono, our auditions will be the first week of classes. Drop by Usdan room 114 Monday or Tuesday between 6-8pm. Please come prepared with a short song to sing!
Fall 2014
Ono just recently finished auditions for the new year and welcomed in their newest member, Ella Caplin! YAY! Also reporting serious withdrawals from Gigi and Grace....Luckily Gigi was able to join us for the orientation concert, so we could seem like we vaguely had our stuff together. VAGUELY

------------November 16th----------
We had some beautiful Ono funtimes last night at Gigi's senior fauver....found out some crazy things. Who knew the only drink Gigi will have is Bacardi Hurricane? Grace thinks this is gross. All newbies were in attendance. Consensus reached that Gigi's housemates are dope.
On a separate note, we're working on a few new songs, including a gigicapella arrangement of Beyoncé's "Rise Up" which sounds phenomenal so far. We're also about to learn some Drake. Prepare thineselves......
Final concert is scheduled for December 8th at the World Music Hall. Be there. -----------November 2nd-------------
Ono killed it twice on Saturday, first at the homecoming a capella concert in Mem-chaps where we sang Helpless and Guns & Horses, then later at our very own mini concert @ Art house. For the record, I heard parents (of a kid in some other a capella group, mind you) walking out of the chapel saying how Ono was particularly ballin. Ono alumnus VIP Jo Flo was in the audience. Our mini concert was dope--the setlist was: Guns and Horses, Doo Wop, Winter Song, Your Woman, Mercy. Several alumni were in attendance (Hannah, Amelia, Becca) as well as poppa DeGroot, who was nice enough to take some hilarious pix and record the whole concert. As soon as I can figure out how to upload from imovie to youtube and have it work, you will see those videos, I promise. In the meantime, check out the picturrresssss !!! Unfortunately, Leyla had laryngitis and couldn't sing with us, but she lipsynced like a boss at the chapel concert. Shout out to Natasha for getting insane amounts of positive feedback on her rap skills. Crushed it.
------------September 23rd----------
We initiated the babies last night! No one suspected a thing. Natasha was the only one who cleared the river of lava (Grace has since warned the others to work on their ups) though Lisa gets points for good form. Other adventures involved 1. traversing the bleachers gorge (Natasha agrees that it was pretty treach) 2. dodging mole people (which looked a lot like freshman boys) at the sand dunes 3. recharging by the light of the periodicals windows 4. Amelia joining us for our little Olin danger cult ritual concert (!!!!!!) & 5. Steph and I getting lost on the way to Athenian (how we managed this is unclear). Many milkshakes were ordered (mostly vanilla). Tales of awkward first kisses were told--for the record, I had a palette expander. Inevitably, the Gigi+Hannah thing was brought up (#ono). Consensus was reached that we could have done a lot better on our food ordering (step it up guys); however, we handled the check with unprecedented efficiency #math #ono #thisiswhy Pictures will be up soon.
Also Saturday night we had onofuntimes and it was glorious EXCEPT Leyla didn't come so shame on her. Shame!
----------September 15th----------
The semester's underway and we're all super excited to be back...with the exception of Rosie, Avery and Madelena (all '15) who are utterly and inexcusably abroad. But so much for them. We were able to lure in auditionees after our successful two-song set at the orientation concert in Crowell on September 1st, where we sang "Angel from Montgomery" and "Mercy" with the help of a few returning graduates (Amelia '13, Hannah '13 and Becca '13) to flesh out our dearth of vocals. Shit was wild. Even more exciting things--there are new babies! After a harrowing audition process we welcomed five (five!) new members into the group: Natasha Cucullo '15, Melanie Parz '16, Susannah Clark '17, Leyla Wade '17, and Lisa Shepherd '17. They're all marvelous and talented and you can check out their bios on the members page. Hooray!
2012-13 Archives:
Ono had a tiny "open rehearsal" (aka half-assed concert) during Commencement weekend in the Music Studios where we rehearse. It was mostly just for families of seniors but some Ono superfans worked their way in there too. We sang lots and lots, and even premiered Angel for the first time..? Which we learned on the beach? Also Gigi joined us? I honestly don't know how we pulled this off but it was so, so lovely. (Editor's Note: This concludes my final post after 4 years of recording Ono news on this site. It's been an honor and privilege. I will miss y'all to pieces. Look forward to Genna and Rosie's far inferior updates starting in the fall. Flange out).
We had our Final Concert of the year on May 12th in the World Music Hall (duh). We premiered lots of new shtuff, including Closer to Fine, Mercy, and Cannibal Resource, and re-premiered (remiered?) Guns and Horses. Clothing scheme was ambiguous but ended up being pretty heavy on the florals. In a great way. There may have been some tears but not because we didn't sound amazing (cause we did). Also the entire thing was recorded! Woo!
Ono was honored to be invited to sing with the Slender James at their Final Concert on May 4th! It was outside in a lovely lil courtyard in the CFA, amongst twinkley lights and a waterfall -- supa coot, guyz. We opened with Helpless as if to say "HULLO. WE'RE ONO." (quoth Genna Degroot). We loved collaborating with this group and had a lot of fun!
We sang for WesFest to rave reviews.
Ono had a joint concert with the lovely Harvard Glee Club Lite on February 23rd in Olin Lobby. Videographer Alumna Extraordinaire Becca Snells captured it all on Carina's camera -- watch it here! We premiered Your Woman, brought back the golden oldie Helpless, and introduced our four fantastic newbies!! We had an amazing time with the Lite and hope to see them again sometime!
We had an amazing audition season and are beyond pumped to welcome Carina Devairakkam-Brown '16, Steph Blumenstock '16, Madalena Henning '15, and Grace Bomann '14!! Get excited to hear their lovely voices soon!
On Sunday, December 9th we had our Winter Concert in the World Music Hall, where we premiered four (!!) new songs -- Little Talks, Skinny Genes, Bright Morning Stars, and Taylor Swift Medley. The place was packed (maybe we should fail at advertising more often?) with friends and alumni and we all had a great time!
In November we had the pleasure of singing for the lovely residents of One Macdonough Place -- we had a BLAST and will definitely be back!!
We sang at Homecoming Weekend and rocked the parents hard.
Ono sang at Orientation, held auditions, and is SO excited to welcome new onobabies Alex Fireman '16 and Sarah Hirschey '15!!! Yayyyyy!
2011-12 Archives:
Ono's final concert was on May 14th in the World Music Hall. We brought back Heal Over and our Regina medley and premiered Somebody That You Used to Know and Eet. We also said goodbye to our three incredible seniors! Cards, flowers, and tears happened.
Ono sang at Take Back the Night and at Send Silence Packing sometime in the Spring. Saving the world with music nbd yall.
Ono recorded a CD on April 22!! Thanks to Jared Paul, amazing recording artist/mixmaster/clapper extraordinaire! Get excited to hear TEN of Ono's greatest hits. That's right. Possible CD titles include "Woof woof meow," "Look how fun we had," and Cara's silent-laughing face. Update: It's out! Get it here woooo!
Our last concert of the semester was Sunday Dec 11th in Exley. We premiered Cosmic Love and revived Winter Song and it was beautiful. We also wished Bon Voyage to Hannah!
Ono's Fall/Homecoming Concert was Nov 5th in Exley Lobby. We premiered Girlfriend and our Tears Dry On Their Own mash-up and brought back the oldie Can't Take My Eyes Off of You. Papa Degroot is amazing and uploaded the whole thang to YouTube -- ch-ch-check it outtt.
We also sang in the a cappella showcase on Sunday and unexpectedly ended up moving outside and singing on the green!
We sang the national anthem at a Wes volleyball game (our flag was still there!!) and then discovered how little we know about volleyball. Except for Avery.
We sang at Orientation, held auditions for four (!) days, and are SO excited to welcome our new members: Genna DeGroot '15, Joey Florento '13, Rosie Kelly '15, Avery Peyton '15, and Marguerite Suozzo-Gole '15!!
2010-11 Archives:
We sang at Commencement!
Guess what? Cara is a boss and uploaded our entire final concert to YouTube! Here's an idea: Download it to your iTunes and listen to us on repeat! Onomatoforever.
Ono had its final concert of the year on Saturday, May 7. We sang in the Chapel (fancy shmancy) and premiered You Are the Best Thing and the B.O.B. Medley. We showered our one and only senior, Sena, with love and Whiskey and a tricked out card. Also, this goes without saying, but we looked great. Good times were had by all!
Ono sang at Take Back the Night on Thursday, April 7th, and then the following Friday, April 15th, for WesFest!
On April 2nd, Ono went on a fieldtrip to Swarthmore to sing with our friends in Mixed Company! Even though only 7/10 of us were there, we sounded pretty bomb. Our visit was complete with a spontaneous a cappella jam sesh in a belltower, deeelicious milkshakes from Nifty Fifty's, a special cameo appearance of the Nic Lounge, rounds of harmonized "happy birthday"s, and much more. It was a very memorable visit and we had a great time!
We had a concert on March 1st in Exley and it was amazing, of course. We premiered Winter Song and brought back the golden oldies Pollen and Demons and it was wonderful. It's on YouTube so you can go watch it again and again!
Our Fall Concert was on Dec 12 in the World Music Hall, and I feel truly sorry for you if you weren't there because it was awesome. We premiered Hometown Glory and King of Anything and had a great time.
We had lots of fun singing to 40-something local middle school students during our rehearsal on December 11! We got double-encored and answered all their questions.
Ono sang at the Homecoming Concert in October!
On October 9 we had a joint concert with the UVA Hullabahoos in Exley lobby. We sang some old faves (Let Go, Hide and Seek, Regina Spektor, and Always Be my Baby) and made some new friends!
We held auditions from Sept 8-13. Welcome to our new members, Gigi, Hannah, Elisa, and Emma! Yaay
We sang at the Orientation a cappella concert on Sept 5 for all the lovely frosh!
2009-10 Archives:
We sang at Commencement and ended a wonderful year.
Our Final Concert was on May 11th in the World Music Hall. We narrowed our setlist down as best we could but still ended up singing pretty much everything we know. We showered our amazing seniors with cards and flowers and onomatolovin - they will be dearly missed!! We'd also like to thank Bridget's mama for recording the concert and handing out nommy cookies!
On April 24th, Ono competed in the 7th annual Rockville A Cappella Slam against three other area a cappella groups. While we didn't win, we had a great time and saw some tears being shed in the audience during "Helpless" and "Hide and Seek," which was pretty durn satisfying. Thanks to everyone who came out to hear us, especially that one woman from the front row!
We serenaded a crowd of prefrosh (not really) in front of Admissions for WesFest!
On April 10th Ono hosted the Pennchants from UPenn, including Elise's brother (awww)! We decided to mix it up and sang in the lounge of Senior Fauver. We premiered "Linger" and revived the oldie "Heal Over." We also looked pretty stunning, nbd.
On March 4th Ono hosted our new friends, the GMen from UMich! We danced, we sang, we discussed queer politics... all in all it was a pretty awesome night.
Ono joined some of Wes' other amazing a cappella groups in performing in a Haiti benefit concert on February 11th in the Memorial Chapel.
Ono gave an awesome Winter concert in the World Music Hall on December 13th, and we send love to our fans who braved the rainstorm to come hear us! We debuted a million new songs, including a Regina Spektor medley, a "Kids" mash-up, "Always be my Baby", and several more I'm sure.
We had a great time singing with our friends in Slavei for a World AIDS Week concert! We premiered "Mama who Bore Me" from the musical "Spring Awakening!"
We sang at Usdan's Thanksgiving extravaganza, awkwardly serenading our peers while they ate...
Ono gave a short and sweet Fall concert in Exley lobby on November 6th to HUGE crowds! Two days later we performed in the annual parents' concert for Homecoming weekend.
In October, Ono performed at the annual "Take Back the Night" night ceremony, singing Tori Amos' "Me and a Gun."
We have a pretty new website! Most of the information has pretty much been transferred, but you can always still visit our old site here. I'll try to keep the news section as fun as Molly O's was... Good luck to me!
2008-09 Archives:
We performed for the first time with our Newbies - Elise, Claire, Sena, Megan, and Cara (yay!) - at the Homecoming A Cappella concert for all adoring parents!
Ono performed at the All A Cappella Concert during Orientation week with only 7 voices! Thanks for the guest appearance, Lynn!
We performed with special friends Brandeis Voicemale in February. YAY!
2007-08 Archives:
Our winter concert, "Onomatopoeia presents: LUMBERJACKTON" was a breathtaking display of woodland feats. We premeired "1234" by Feist.
Homecoming weekend was fun and we sang.
Our first concert of the fall, Sexley in Exley, happened in the science center lobby right before fall break. We were surprised and delighted by the massive turnout! New members Mollie and Mica shook their Ono tailfeathers for the first time to rave reviews.
The Final Concert Extravaganza of Spring 2007 went down May 15 in the World Music Hall... We debuted "What Goes Around Comes Around" and "Chicago"! What glee!
We sang at many a gathering at Reunion and Commencement 2k7, May 24th-27th!
Ono was thrilled to sing at the reception dinner for new president Michael Roth on April 27th! It was really exciting to be a part of this special event! We sang "Helplessly Hoping," the ole favorite, and then "Seven," because middle aged people like Prince too. Then we joined the Spirits in leading the audience in singing the fight song! Oh glory hallelujah what enthusiasm!
Wesfest! A crowd of mostly not-prefrosh cathered on April 20 at Admissions to hear Ono sing "Demons," "Galileo," and that other song.
Ono gave a rip-roaring performance in February at the Board of Trustees/Alumni Dinner at a CASTLE! I thought it was more like a Tudor Manor, but whateva... We sang "Angel from Montgomery" and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," and we even put on nice clothes! Great moments of joy were had by all involved.
Random Olin concert happened sometime in February, I think... It's kinda hazy at this point.
So I was abroad in the fall and nobody felt like playing with the website, apparently, so...no descriptions of anything that happened in the fall.
2006-07 Archives:
Ono's final concert of the semester was May 13 at Alpha Delt. We premeired "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and "Losing Lisa"! We also said goodbye to Beth Bernstein, our sole, beloved senior. We will miss her. She will come back to visit. Or else.
Once again, Ono performed at the annual "Take Back the Night" ceremony. We sang Tori Amos' "Me and a Gun" in the first circle in the Butterfields.
On Thursday, April 20 Ono rocked the prefrosh at Admissions. Hard.
We had a jolly good time performing with "A Little Off the Top," Wesleyan's new barbershop quartet, right before spring break. Olin was the venue once again. We sang a bunch of songs but notably premiered the Beatles' "Because."
First concert of oh-six was February 20-something in Olin at night. We sang "The Moon Song," "Finally," "Tell Him," and "Seven."
2005-06 Archives:
The FINAL FALL CONCERT happened December 15th in the MPR. If you missed it, I am truly, deeply sorry, because in my opinion, this concert reached previously-unknown levels of amazingness. We premiered "Leader of the Pack" and "Love the One You're With" and damn did we look fine. The whole concert was recorded by Tom Quigley - props to Tom!
Onomatopoeia appeared briefly on December 15th at a tree-lighting during "Light Up the North End" in Middletown. Thanks to all who came to listen!
Ono performed on December 7th as part of an AIDS benefit concert for World Aids Week.
Onomatopoeia's appearance at the Homecoming/Family Weekend concert may have been brief, but it was exhilarating for literally everyone involved. We performed "Tell Him" and pseudo-premiered "Seven." Pseudo because it's an old Ono song that hasn't been done in a while. Keep watch for it at upcoming concerts! It has perky, happy lyrics like "we will see a plague and a river of blood and every evil soul will surely die."
On Friday, October 21st, the Bates College Merimanders joined Onomatopoeia in the Science Center Lobby for a veritable jubilee of all-female a cappella. Fun!
If you missed our early October concert, it's because it was a SURPRISE! Onomatopoeia snuck very sneakily into the Olin lobby and performed a flash concert on October 11th at 11:15 PM or thereabouts. We performed "Galileo," "Angel from Montgomery," and "No Rain." Thank you very much to our spontaneous audience who braved the elements to come listen to us. Major props, audience.
Auditions were held September 13th and 14th or something like that. Welcome to our new members, Rhonde, Molly, and Gavi!
Onomatopoeia appeared at the Orientation A Cappella Concert. We performed "Helplessly Hoping" and "Real Love." Yes, only two songs. A teaser, if you will. More to come!
Our final spring concert for 2005 was held on May 2nd in the World Music Hall. Video clips of the concert were filmed by Mrs. Pancrazi! Love to the wonderful Pancrazi family!
We also performed at Admissions during Wesfest. We premiered "Finally" and performed "Helplessly Hoping," "Not the Doctor," "No Rain," and "Oral Hygiene."
We gave a concert March 24th in Olin Library. We performed "Helplessly Hoping," "Turtledove," "Freedom," and premiered "No Rain." It was all very exciting.
We also gave a concert at Olin Library on February 15th. We performed "Lullaby," "Galileo," "Not the Doctor," "Hunger," and "Real Love." This event was likewise exhilarating.
